Plus, Gaga discusses how she got into her dark image and stayed there
Line of Events
Struggling with his dual identity, failed comedian Arthur Fleck meets the love of his life, Harley Quinn, while incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital. Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleason and director-screenwriter Todd Phillips say what scared them most about working on the musical sequel. The subtitle of the film "Folie a Deux" means "The Madness of Two" in French. Initially, this led to speculations about the appearance of Harley Quinn in the film, which were soon confirmed. The name Folie a Deux comes from the French psychiatrists of the 19th century, Charles Lasseg and Jules Falret. This term was coined to describe two or more people who share the same insanity or delusion.
It is also known as Lassega-Fallre syndrome
The foreman of the jury speaks of "the people of New York" instead of Gotham City. That's because New York State is the plaintiff in the criminal case, and this version of Gotham City is apparently in New York State (most versions place Gotham in New Jersey).. Arthur Fleck: [Written as a malicious autograph from sad emoticon] I HOPE YOU GET CANCER. The film opens with a Looney Tunes cutscene showing the Warner Bros. logo surrounded by rings and the Joker's face.. I really wanted this movie to be good, but
Merrily We Roll AlongBy Eddie Cantor, Murray Mencher, and Charles Tobias. but I have to be honest, this one just didn't hook me. My real rating would probably be around a 4 or 5, but I'm giving it a 6 because I know this movie will get a lot of downvotes, and it has some merits. First, it feels more like a musical promoting Lady Gaga's "new album" than the dark psychological thriller I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, Gaga is talented and her performance was solid, but the over-the-top musical numbers really ruined the mood. This is not the kind of movie I would want to be in the middle of a story in a Broadway show.
The acting was spot on, no doubt about it
He just destroys the atmosphere and tension that worked so well in the first Joker movie. One thing I've never seen before is that so many people left the theater before the movie ended. It's incredible, but I even saw some people fall asleep during the movie! The pace was slow and it lacked the intense energy that kept the original Joker interested from start to finish. On the plus side, the cinematography was beautiful and Joaquin Phoenix is still excellent as Arthur Fleck. But even with these strong elements, something was wrong.
The film felt too long and towards the end it just seemed to lose direction
Ultimately, Joker: Madness for Two had its moments, but the musical direction and uneven tempo left me confused. Check out our list of exciting new films from this year's film festivals, including Venice, TIFF, New York and more.
